Willow weaving
Willow is an elegant plant and a vigorous grower that dances with the wind, is very tactile and a pleasure to work with.
The rods are flexible, strong and versatile.
You can create a great variety of objects, from small decorative work to big garden hurdles, from practical objects like shopping baskets to living willow screens.
Willow and other sustainable materials such as rushes, hazel and heather have been very important in daily life over the centuries. Wicker medieval eel or fish traps, creels to transport peat or seaweed to the croft, coracles, the herring cran for the fish trade and balloon baskets – made basketry an integral part of society.
My willow working journey is a great delight gaining understanding of an old craft that still has a continuing relevance in our lives.
I enjoy sharing skills through willow weaving courses and demonstrations in Village Halls, Fairs, Historical gatherings and Museums. For more information, look on news/blog.
Photos of my baskets and other work, you can find on the willow work page.
Commissions taken for living willow screens used in gardens
